Durham murder suspect turns himself in

June 3, 2009

— Durham police say a man charged with murder has turned himself in.

Marcus D. Cox was placed in Durham County Jail Tuesday night without bond, police said.

Cox was charged with murder in the October shooting of a 19-year-old on North Hyde Park Avenue.

The victim, Lamont Monty Brandon Jr., and Way Holloway, 25, were riding a moped in the 1300 block of North Hyde Park Avenue about 8:45p.m. Oct. 14 when a man got out of a car and fired several shots.

Brandon was shot in the torso and later died at Duke University Hospital. Holloway was treated for a gunshot wound to the hand.

In November, police arrested Alton Dewayne "Popeye" Sanders, 24, and charged him with murder in the case.
