Art Southard, Carol Woods' director of safety, security, transportation and communications, received the 2009 Resident Services Award from the N.C. Association of Non-Profit Homes for the Aging. Art was recognized for his 18 years of service enhancing the quality of life for residents of Carol Woods in Chapel Hill.

Allstate Insurance Co. has recognized agency owner Tom Ficquette in Chapel Hill with the Chairman's Inner Circle Conference Award for high standards in customer satisfaction, customer retention and profitable business growth.

Audubon North Carolina presented its executive director Chris Canfield, with the 16th Annual Charles H. Callison Award in recognition of his outstanding leadership and service. Audubon North Carolina presented the Birdlore Conservation Education Award to Partners for Environmental Justice of Raleigh and the N.C. Botanical Garden in Chapel Hill. The awards were presented at the nonprofit organization's annual membership meeting. Audubon North Carolina is based in Chapel Hill.

Triangle Commercial Real Estate Women awarded Barbara Mulkey with a Champion Award for the 2009 Trailblazer of the Year award. Mulkey is the founder and chairman of the board for Mulkey Engineers & Consultants. In addition, the Women's Transportation Seminar North Carolina Triangle chapter has given the firm the 2008 Employer of the Year award. Carla Starr, principal and director of administrative services, received the President's Award at the company's annual anniversary dinner, which honors a member of the Mulkey team who has played a significant role in the company's success throughout the course of the last year.

Chuck Hemric, director of volunteer services at Durham's Sarah P. Duke Gardens, received the 2009 Marsha Riddle Lifetime Achievement Award from the N.C. Association of Volunteer Administration at its annual conference.

The Meredith College Alumnae Association presented awards to four alumnae during the College's Alumnae Reunion Weekend. Winners for 2009 are: Distinguished Alumna Award, Phoenix Chen Haydon of Raleigh; Recent Graduate Award, Elizabeth Dobbins of Raleigh; Career Achievement Award, Carolyn Dunn of Raleigh; and Alumna Philanthropy Award, Joyce McIntyre Rudisill of Charlotte.

BJAC, an architectural firm in Raleigh, has received the 2009 Pinnacle Award for Steady Growth and Profitability, presented by the Greater Raleigh Chamber of Commerce. In addition, CEO Lou Jurkowski has been certified as a Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design Accredited Professional by the U.S. Green Building Council.

Rex Healthcare received 14 awards from Professional Research Consultants, a national health care marketing research company, at the 2009 PRC Client Education Conference for hospital leaders.
