CHAPEL HILL — A man shot in the leg Monday near Homestead Park has been charged with assault, and police are seeking a possible second suspect.
Police responded to an incident at 105 Bright Sun Place around 5 p.m. Monday. A silver 2006 or 2007 Ford Focus had pulled up, and a man had begun shooting at it, according to police. One bullet reportedly shattered the car's rear window and another entered a residence nearby where no one was injured.
The Focus left with two unidentified men inside, and police later learned a man was being treated for a gunshot wound at Duke Hospital.
The injured man was Kamari Maricio Street Marsh, of 107 Bright Sun Place, who police say fired the shots at the Focus. He was charged with assault with a deadly weapon, a felony, and going armed in terror of the public, a misdemeanor. He was being held in the Orange County jail today under $15,500 bond.
Marsh was shot in the knee, police spokesman Lt. Kevin Gunter said. He also had a wound in the opposite thigh, but police don’t know if that was caused by the same bullet or a second shot.
Police have no motive, Gunter said.
Marsh was arrested on a cocaine charge last year but the charge was dismissed for lack of evidence, according to court records.
