New parking meter rates start Monday

From staff reportsJuly 30, 2009

— New on-street parking meter rates will go into effect Monday in Raleigh.

The new rate system will charge motorists more for staying in on-street spaces for long periods but will also allow motorists to purchase as little as 15 minutes of parking. The new rates are 25 cents for 15 minutes, 50 cents for 30 minutes, $1 for an hour and $2 for two hours.

The rates are designed to discourage long-term parking in on-street spaces.

The city thinks that greater turnover of the spaces will make it more attractive to visit businesses in downtown Raleigh.
