Mudcats' comeback falls short

From Mudcats news releaseAugust 1, 2009

— A three-run third inning was enough for the first-place Chattanooga Lookouts to defeat the Carolina Mudcats 3-2 at Five County Stadium on Thursday night.

Mudcats starter Camilo Vazquez (2-4) retired the first two hitters of the third inning before a walk and three successive hits allowed the Lookouts to strike for a 3-0 lead. Andrew Lambo and Lucas May doubled in runs ahead of Gaby Martinez's single to center to complete the scoring.

In the eighth inning, the Mudcats' Chris Denove hit his third home run of the season to cut the deficit to 3-2, but Carolina couldn't get the tying run.
