Nuke-free zone

August 4, 2009

A July 28 news article stated that Iran says it wants to develop nuclear power just for domestic purposes. However, its generally irresponsible behavior suggests to me that it cannot be trusted. Iran has not shown itself to be a friend to democratic countries nor has it fairly priced its oil supplies to the world. Why should it have nuclear power for any reason?

Nuclear power is a luxury, not an entitlement. We should no more allow Iran to develop nuclear power for merely peaceful purposes than we should allow chronic alcoholics to drive cars just for shopping or to drive our children on school buses.

Israel's stance on this is realistic, and the world would be wise to follow suit.
