Park the criticism

August 12, 2009

Good grief! You would think Donnie Harrison had shot his mother considering all the holier-than-thou uproar over his department's use of the free Corvette to catch law breakers. I think there might be a lot of car envy out there. Many of the people complaining about the car, your own Barry Saunders being one of them, are overlooking the fact that Harrison almost never drives it, and all of the necessary lights and computers have already been installed. If it works for the Wake County Sheriff's Department, then I say go for it.

One of the complaints is the frequent need for tire replacement at $1,571.98 for a set of four tires. This is the price for Goodyear F1 EMT (run-flat) tires. Bridgestone run-flats in these sizes are even more expensive. Non-run-flats can be had at a cheaper price. Since this car cannot carry a spare tire, run-flats are original equipment. I like run-flat tires.

I will be on the lookout for a black Z06 Corvette on the highway and will drive accordingly. But don't we all always do that? If this car catches just one drug dealer, then I say it is worth it.
