Sugarland Bakery class

Sugarland chef-owner Katrina Ryan will teach a cupcake baking class at A Southern Season at 4 p.m. Wednesday. This class on whimsical cupcakes is geared toward teens. The class costs $35. Reserve a spot by calling 929-7133 or going to www.southernseason.com.

Speaking of sweets...

Hillsborough Wine Co. is featuring a wine and pastry tasting from 1-5 p.m. Aug. 29.

The pastries will be made by French baker Eric Valour, the owner of Valour's Patisserie in downtown Hillsborough.

Music at Weaver Street

The cooperative grocery store's Hillsborough location is hosting a series of performances by blues musicians connected with the Music Maker Relief Foundation.

Here's the schedule:

Thursday, Abe Reid of Statesville will play harmonica and guitar.

Aug. 27, Lightnin' Wells will share his encyclopedic knowledge of the Piedmont blues.

Sept. 3, Justin Robinson of the Carolina Chocolate Drops will play a solo show.

Sept. 10, John Dee Holeman, above, and Red Rover will perform.

The shows run from 6-8 p.m. on each Thursday night in the store's Lilac Lounge; the Hillsborough store is at 228 S. Churton St.
