Man found shot to death in SE Raleigh apartment

Staff WriterAugust 20, 2009

— More than a dozen patrol cars, unmarked cars, forensic investigators' vehicles and a police mobile command unit descended on a Southeast Raleigh apartment building early Wednesday afternoon after a man was found shot to death.

The victim has been identified as Christopher Degrantus Fowler, 20. No arrests have been made in the case, according to Raleigh police spokesman Jim Sughrue.

The shooting occurred about 1:30 p.m. at 611 Peyton St., the site of a 12-unit apartment building owned by House Properties in Raleigh.

Dozens of curious residents who live at the row of apartments along Peyton Street stood out in the broiling afternoon heat trying to figure out what happened.

The fatal shooting is Raleigh's 11th homicide of the year, Sughrue said.

Anyone with information that might assist that investigation is asked to call the Raleigh Police Department's Detective Division at 996-3555 or Raleigh Crime Stoppers at 834-HELP.
