Missing man's body found in car

From staff reportsAugust 22, 2009

The body of a missing Raleigh man was found Thursday in a car at the bottom of an Orange County ravine.

After his family hadn't heard from him in four days, Antonio T. Covington, 28, was reported missing Aug. 10, according to a report from the N.C. Highway Patrol.

On Thursday, Trooper Pamela Williams was looking for three road signs she had noticed missing in the area where Interstates 40 and 85 converge, when she spotted a car in the ravine below. Covington's body was inside.

Williams ascertained that Covington was on I-40 attempting to merge onto I-85 when his vehicle missed the curve, knocked over the signs and went down the embankment.

An autopsy is planned.
