Negron powers Mudcats

— Second baseman Kris Negron hit a pair of two-run homers to power the Carolina Mudcats to a 7-6 victory over the Tennessee Smokies on Tuesday night at Five County Stadium.

Negron had a two-run homer in the Mudcats' four-run second inning, his shot to left field giving Carolina a 5-0 lead. His two-run homer to center in the seventh gave the Mudcats a 7-4 lead.

Negron hit his first two homers since joining the Mudcats on Saturday.

Tennessee scored a pair of runs in the eighth inning, but Phillippe-Alexandre Valiquette pitched a scoreless ninth to pick up his third save.
