Third hot dog eating record set at Roast Grill in Raleigh

From Staff ReportsAugust 30, 2009

— For the third time this year, someone has set a hot dog eating record at the Roast Grill in downtown Raleigh.

Eric Bridenstine, 26, of Raleigh became the landmark eatery's new record holder Friday afternoon, after he ate 19 hot dogs in 53 minutes.

Asked afterward how he felt, Bridenstine said, "I've felt better."

Bridenstine said he had already been questioning the decision to undertake the challenge after hot dog No. 2 but that he had a lot of support from a half dozen or so buddies who were cheering him on.

Bridenstine, a producer for the Carolina Hurricanes and the N.C. State Wolfpack at the RBC Center, decided to attempt the record after seeing a recent episode of the Travel Channel's "Man v. Food," on which star Adam Richman ate 17 Roast Grill hot dogs in an hour in February.

That record didn't last long when the previous record holder, Gabe Gigliotti, returned in March to take back his title, by eating 18 hot dogs in 23 minutes.
