DURHAM — A Durham woman was in jail Sunday on charges that she physically abused her niece and nephew.
Omelia Evonne Bowens, 25, of 1031 Sherwood Drive was charged Friday with two counts of felony child abuse inflicting severe bodily injury, according to arrest warrants.
Bowens was watching over her niece and nephew Thursday and Friday, warrants said. She is accused of hitting her 3-year-old niece, resulting in multiple lacerations and bruises on the child's chest and back. She is also accused of cutting the hand of her 8-year-old nephew, according to arrest warrants.
Bowens was being held in lieu of $50,000 bail in the Durham County jail.
