Pack traffic will jam West Raleigh

STAFF WRITERSeptember 3, 2009

— West Raleigh traffic arteries will be clogged with football traffic this afternoon as fans head for N.C. State University's football season-opener at Carter-Finley Stadium.

Commuters who usually take Wade Avenue should consider finding another way home.

Kickoff is at 7:03 p.m. for the Wolfpack's game against the Gamecocks of South Carolina, and many fans will arrive by 5 p.m. The Highway Patrol will direct most game traffic into Carter-Finley lots from Wade Avenue and Edwards Mill Road.

Stadium lots will open at 2 p.m. for those with permits. Other public parking will be available on nearby lots after 5 p.m.

Football traffic will add to the rush-hour crush on busy roads near the stadium, including Interstate 40, Blue Ridge Road, Hillsborough Street, Western Boulevard, Wade and Edwards Mill.
