Police investigate grandmother's death

From Staff ReportsSeptember 5, 2009

— Police are investigating the case of a grandmother who died suddenly while caring for her young grandson, according to search warrants made public Friday.

Nancy Williams of 205 E. Ransom St. was found dead on her kitchen floor Aug. 9. Her husband, Leander Zane Williams, was unresponsive on the couch, and he remains unconscious at Wake Med Cary, the warrant said.

Police were alerted after their 7-year-old grandson called his father to say that "he could not wake grandma and grandpa," the warrant said.

Police are now requesting blood samples from Leander Williams in an effort to determine the cause of his wife's death.

According to the warrant, family members said the couple had a history of drug use.
