The marriage house

September 5, 2009

I'm a Christian, and I'm not gay. I say this only to defuse the first bomb. In regards to Jessica Custer's Aug. 29 Point of View article "Defending marriage in N.C." I must say enough is enough.

The bill proposed is not a bill to defend marriage. If North Carolinians truly have this intent then let's have the gravitas to really do it. Offer a bill to outlaw divorce.

The Bible speaks against divorce. Divorce plays a larger role in ruining families and affecting children negatively than gay marriage ever would. Of course, we can't stomach this. It would affect the lives of our loved ones or, gasp, even our own.

The Bible says, "Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother's eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye?" Pastor Rick Warren said he hoped the church would become known "more by what it is for than what it is against. The hands and feet of the body of Christ have been amputated, and we've been pretty much reduced to a big mouth."

Let's get our own house in order before we worry about the gay bogeyman in the closet.
