Welcome to the new newsobserver.com. We hope you like our look and features, and find it a more satisfying experience.

We've tried to make it easier to get around on our web site and find the stories, photos and videos that you want. We have a lot of content on this site, and our design is intended to bring the best of it to your attention.

We also have made it possible for you to customize the way the home page looks, so you can find stories that matter most to you.

New features

We have made many changes, some big and some small. Let's talk about some of the big ones.

  • Here's one cool feature. Go to the "Index" tab on the main toolbar at the top of the home page. When you click on it, you will find links to all of the sections on our web site.
  • Go to our News Grid and customize what you want to see. Click on the "Customize your news" link and choose from a menu of all kinds of stories on our site.
  • At the top of the home page, you'll see our "Featured Stories" showing you some of the best stories, photos and videos of the day. We have a deep and rich site, and we wanted to show you more of our stories and visual content.
  • Our search has been expanded to include items from our popular blogs, as well as our photo galleries and videos.
  • We have given the weather more prominence on our home page, including a quick way to find out what it's like at the beach and in the mountains.
  • We've added convenient tabs at the top of our story pages to help you navigate easily between the article, photos, videos and comments.
  • Our new Support Center will help you get answers to your questions and find a knowledge base that can help you get the most out of our site.
