On Saturday, PineCone will kick off its 25th anniversary season with a concert by acclaimed multinational acoustic band The Greencards. Founded in 1984 to promote traditional Southern music and dance, PineCone has evolved into the largest and most active community programming organization in North Carolina. Grounded in bluegrass but not mired there, the Greencards are an excellent choice with which to inaugurate PineCone's historic season. Named the Americana Music Association's Emerging Artist of the Year for 2006, the Grammy-nominated combo combines blues, bluegrass and world music styles into an original and imaginative blend. They play at 8 p.m. at Fletcher Opera Theater in Raleigh.
Also Saturday, Gretchen "Redneck Woman" Wilson takes her fiery brand of country music to the Time Warner Pavilion at Walnut Creek.
