Film and stage memorabilia that longtime N&O arts writer Bill Morrison collected over his long career will be sold at auction Saturday in Hillsborough. During his 33 years at the paper, Morrison accumulated framed movie posters, celebrity autographs, an unpublished snapshot Ava Gardner sent him, items related to the 1956 filming of Grace Kelly's "The Swan" in Asheville and more. Carrboro's ArtsCenter kicks off its season Saturday by hosting The Monti storytelling series. The theme is heroes, and the lineup includes writer Michael Malone, novelist and writer Louis Bayard, singer for The Old Ceremony Django Haskins, Greensboro writer Justin Catanoso and Canadian author Sophie Naima Caird.
