ECU-UNC Observations

The game's biggest penalty occurred with about three minutes left when ECU defender C.J. Wilson was incorrectly flagged for roughing UNC quarterback T.J. Yates on a 2nd-and-12 play from the Pirate 14-yard-line. Wilson was the victim of an illegal block to the back by UNC fullback Anthony Elzy. The contact forced Wilson to slam into Yates, who had just tossed the ball out of bounds. The ACC officiating crew called a roughing the passer penalty on Wilson that gave UNC a 1st down at the 7-yard-line.

ECU was creative in getting junior receiver Dwayne Harris involved in the offense. Harris ran for a touchdown, threw an option pass for 35 yards and caught four balls for 45 yards. Harris was lined up at quarterback for his 6-yard touchdown run in the second quarter, which tied the game at 14. Earlier on the same drive, he took an end-around pitch from quarterback Patrick Pinkney and hit Joe Womack for a 35-yard gain.

While UNC's freshman receivers Erik Highsmith and Jheranie Boyd had the starring role, Joshua Adams snagged a 23-yard throw in the second quarter.
