Florida State loses starting tight end

Florida State has lost starting tight end Caz Piurowski for the season.

The 6-foot-7, 270-pound senior from Land O'Lakes, Fla., tore ligaments in his right knee Saturday against Georgia Tech.

Florida State sports medicine director Randy Oravetz said Piurowski will have surgery in the next week or two.

Piurowski had 13 catches for 182 yards and two touchdowns this season.

Canes lose linebacker: Miami linebacker Jordan Futch will miss the remainder of the season with a knee injury, a significant blow to the ninth-ranked Hurricanes. Futch was hurt in Saturday night's win over Florida A&M. The team did not reveal which knee was injured.

ACC honors: Duke quarterback Thaddeus Lewis is the ACC offensive back of the week.

Lewis was 40-of-50 passing for 459 yards with five touchdowns and added a scoring run in the Blue Devils' 49-28 victory over N.C. State.

Wake Forest defensive tackle John Russell was selected as the defensive lineman of he week.

Death ruled a suicide: Tennessee police say an 18-year-old walk-on punter for Southern Mississippi committed suicide.

Union City special police investigator Derrick Odell said Monday that Peter Wilkes died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Wilkes died Saturday, four days after the shooting at his home.

Falcons' Crump honored: St. Augustine's senior defensive end Marcus Crump is the CIAA defensive lineman of the week.

Basketball

Blue Devils set open house: Duke's men's basketball team will hold an open house for fans beginning at 11 a.m. Saturday at Cameron Indoor Stadium.

Players and coaches will be available for autographs (but not photographs) from 11 to 12:30. During the autograph session, fans will be able to take their photos with Duke's 1991, 1992 and 2001 NCAA championship trophies.

Fans will be allowed to watch practice from 1 to 3 p.m.

Doors to the arena will open at 10 a.m., and admission is free.
