I have good news following last week's column about Gresham Lake Antique Mall closing this month.
It looks like the long-standing antiques hub in North Raleigh will live on after all.
A trio of Triangle antique dealers is planning to take it over and reopen it just one day after it was scheduled to close for good.
Greg Kanas, Kathy Mitchell and Cathy Matarese have worked together on area tag sales, helping to sell the assets of estates. Mitchell and Matarese are the proprietors of Raleigh's Hunt & Gather upscale antique market.
The three will lease the space that houses the antique mall at 6917 Capital Blvd. and reopen it at its regular Sunday opening time of 1 p.m. on Nov. 1 as Antiques at Gresham Lake. It is still uncertain how many of the 40 vendors will stay, but Kanas said he's hopeful many of them will.
"We want to paint it and put up a new sign," he said. "But we want to just go in there and keep it the quaint antique mall that it is."
Also, the Antiques Emporium at Cameron Village in Raleigh added Walter Parker Antiques, selling porcelain pieces, and Chat Noir Linens, which specializes in import and high-quality linens.
In Garner, Anfesa's Jewelers moved to a larger space and added a ballroom to the business. The jewelry store used to be in Garner Station but has now completed its own building at 205 New Fidelity Court. The ballroom is available to rent, and folks who buy things like engagement rings can score a discount on a ballroom booking.
In Raleigh, the Key Harbor kiosk that opened about a year ago at Triangle Town Center is making a big move to a regular store at Crabtree Valley Mall. The company hit on a product that's in high demand: discounted car key remotes, copies of car keys with the electronic chips inside and high-security cut keys for luxury cars. The Triangle Town Center kiosk is already closed. The Crabtree store should open next month on the lower level near Try Sports.
