Gerald Wallace had 24 points and 20 rebounds and the Charlotte Bobcats held the visiting New Jersey Nets without a point for more than 10 minutes in rallying for a 79-68 victory on Monday.

The Nets' ineptitude allowed Charlotte to go on a 24-0 run bridging the third and fourth quarters, wiping out the Bobcats' horrible offensive start. D.J. Augustin added 21 points in Raja Bell's return from a wrist injury.

Also Monday

Knicks 117, Hornets 111: David Lee scored a season-high 28 points, Al Harrington had 13 of his 24 in the fourth quarter, and host New York earned its first victory of the season by beating New Orleans.

Late Sunday

Lakers 118, Hawks 110: Kobe Bryant had 41 points and eight rebounds, Andrew Bynum added 21 points, and Los Angeles pulled away with 18 consecutive points in the third quarter for a victory over visiting Atlanta.

Nuggets 133, Grizzlies 123: Carmelo Anthony extended his torrid start with 42 points in Denver's shootout win over visiting Memphis.

Trail Blazers 83, Thunder 74: Steve Blake scored 18 points, Brandon Roy made a late push to finish with 16, and Portland earned a split of a two-game road trip.

Suns 120, Timberwolves 112: Channing Frye hit six 3-pointers and scored 25 points for undefeated host Phoenix, and Jason Richardson had 23 points in his first game following a two-game suspension.

Notes

Walton won't return to ESPN: Hall of Famer Bill Walton won't return as an analyst for ESPN's NBA coverage.

Walton said in a statement Monday that "it is time to dedicate the rest of my life to service." He missed most of last season while recovering from back surgery. Walton calls his battle with back problems a "life-changing ordeal."

Wolves pick up options on Brewer, Love: The Minnesota Timberwolves have exercised contract options for next season on Corey Brewer and Kevin Love.

Pistons plan to rest Hamilton: Richard Hamilton will miss a third straight game with a sprained right ankle today when the Detroit Pistons host the Orlando Magic.

Mavs coach charged with driving drunk: Dallas Mavericks assistant coach Popeye Jones is free on bond after being arrested on a drunken-driving charge in suburban Dallas over the weekend.

Rondo agrees to contract extension: Rajon Rondo says he has agreed to a five-year contract extension with the Boston Celtics.

The deal has yet to be signed, but the point guard said Monday that was just a "formality."
