The New Orleans Saints have tied their best start to a season.
Drew Brees had 308 yards passing, Pierre Thomas scored two touchdowns and Jabari Greer returned an interception for a score to help the Saints reach 7-0 with a 35-27 victory over the Atlanta Falcons on Monday night. Only the 1991 Saints began a season with as many wins.
Greer's touchdown was the Saints' fifth TD on an interception this season, tying a season franchise mark set in 1998.
Tracy Porter also had an interception on the Saints 1-yard line on a pass tipped by Jonathan Vilma in the fourth quarter, preserving a 28-24 lead.
Darren Sharper sealed the win with his seventh interception of the season in the final seconds at the Saints 3-yard line, the third interception of the game thrown by Matt Ryan.
Browns' GM out: George Kokinis, the hand-picked GM of first-year coach Eric Mangini, left the team Monday under unexplained circumstances after less than one year on the job.
After reports surfaced that Kokinis was fired, the team issued an awkwardly worded statement Monday night saying the GM "is no longer actively involved with the organization." The Browns also denied reports that Kokinis was escorted from their team headquarters.
Cable confident: Coach Tom Cable said he expects to remain coach of the Oakland Raiders despite allegations that he assaulted his former wife and girlfriend.
Cable declined to respond to specific questions Monday about whether he has an anger management issue following allegations from his first wife and former girlfriend on ESPN that he physically abused them at various times during their relationships. Cable says he has not talked about the allegations with owner Al Davis or NFL commissioner Roger Goodell.
Chiefs settle on suspension: The Kansas City Chiefs, apparently fearful of losing in arbitration, agreed to cut Larry Johnson's suspension in half for making gay slurs.
He will still miss the game at Jacksonville this week and not participate in team activities until Nov. 9. The Chiefs had said the suspension was for conduct detrimental to the team.
Johnson posted the slur on his Twitter account after also questioning coach Todd Haley's credentials. He then repeated the slur the next day to reporters.
Injury updates: Houston tight end Owen Daniels has a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee and will have season-ending surgery to repair the injury.
The fourth-year player has 40 receptions for 519 yards and a team-leading five touchdowns this season.
Arizona wide receiver Anquan Boldin hopes to play at Chicago this week despite re-aggravating a right ankle sprain in the third quarter of a 34-21 loss to Carolina on Sunday. He left the game and did not return after catching three passes to become the all-time leading receiver in franchise history with 537.
