Inside the game

Junior Shaun Draughn, UNC's leading rusher, fractured his left shoulder blade on the first play of the game and will miss the rest of the season. Ryan Houston replaced Draughn in Saturday's 19-6 win over Duke and ran for a career-high 164 yards on 37 carries. The rushing attempts were the most by a UNC player in a single game since 1990 (Natrone Means, 37 vs. Duke).

Game balls

DE Robert Quinn: Three more sacks for the sophomore defensive end, who made life miserable for Duke quarterback Thaddeus Lewis.

RG Alan Pelc: Injuries forced the junior to play center for most of the second half. He didn't miss a beat, and UNC ran for 111 yards in the half.

Penalty flags

UNC quarterback T.J. Yates threw an interception, was sacked twice and generally was ineffective in hitting 16-of-28 passes for 119 yards. Lacking Draughn and having little depth behind Houston, the Heels need Yates to take pressure off the running game in the final three weeks.

Looking ahead

UNC (6-3, 2-3 ACC) hosts Miami at 3:30 p.m. Saturday on the regional ABC broadcast (WTVD, WCTI). The Tar Heels have won two straight against the 15th-ranked Hurricanes (7-2, 4-2), coach Butch Davis' former team. The Heels need one more win to qualify for a bowl game.
