CHAPEL HILL -- The Varsity Theatre, at 123 E. Franklin St., will reopen Nov. 27 with a showing of "The Wizard of Oz."

The theater's new owners, Paul and Susan Shareshian, chose the 1939 Hollywood classic for the theater's reopening weekend because "it was a memorable tradition to watch 'The Wizard of Oz' on Thanksgiving weekend, and we are really excited to bring this movie back to the big screen," the couple said in a news release.

"The Wizard of Oz" stars Judy Garland. The Varsity will have showings Friday, Saturday and Sunday at 1 p.m., 3:10 p.m., 5:20 p.m. and 7:30 p.m.

During opening week, the Varsity will also be showing "The Invention of Lying" and "The Informant."
