FAYETTEVILLE -- A North Carolina judge issued a temporary restraining order Thursday which will allow a high school football team to play in the state playoffs.

The Fayetteville Observer reported that Cumberland County Superior Court Judge Jack Thompson met with lawyers for the players from Terry Sanford High School and the North Carolina High School Athletic Association.

Lawyers for the players said the judge issued the order around 5:45 p.m., meaning the school will face Pine Forest High School in a game scheduled for today.

Charlie Adams, executive director of the NCHSAA, said the organization was disappointed with the decision, but would have no further comment because the case is pending. He said the association expects to be in court on Monday.

Terry Sanford's team was ruled ineligible on Monday after the discovery of problems with a player's credits and attendance.
