RALEIGH -- Southeast Raleigh coach Daniel Finn took some pretty good whippings from Greenville Rose when he was a coach at Greenville D.H. Conley.
But Finn was the one smiling Friday night after the Bulldogs returned the favor 36-3 to advance in the NCHSAA 4-A playoffs.
They will play the winner of a game between Harnett Central and Fayetteville Seventy-First, which was pushed back until today.
Southeast held the injury-riddled Rampants to 24 yards passing and 93 rushing.
"Our defense has been stepping up here of late," Finn said. "We put a lot of people up front to stop the run."
Senior wide receiver Jamar Satterwhite was back in the lineup for the Bulldogs after suffering a collapsed lung earlier in the season. But the team had another senior - offensive lineman Devonte Smith - go out after a chop block to the knee.
Bulldogs quarterback Gabe Henderson led his team with 223 total yards (123 yards passing and 100 yards rushing) and four touchdowns.
"We are a run-and-throw team," Finn said. "We don't want to throw the ball the whole game or run the ball the entire time.
"Our offensive line did a better job in second half."
The Bulldogs scored first on a 35-yard field goal by Summer Tate with 5:27 left in the first quarter.
A little trickery pushed Southeast's lead to 9-0 when Henderson pitched the ball to David Washington, who then threw a 45-yard pass to Keith Tucker. The point-after kick was wide right.
The half ended with the Bulldogs up 15-0 after an 18-yard run by Henderson.
Southeast made it 22-0 in the third when Tommy Branch made a dazzling one-handed grab from Henderson for an 18-yard touchdown play.
Kicker Warren Harvey gave Rose its points with a 37-yard field goal with 5:55 left in the third period.
Henderson's 36- and 9-yard runs in the fourth gave Southeast its final margin.
"After the beatings we took [in his time at D.H. Conley], this was nice," Finn said.

It was the third time Panther Creek swimmer Henriette Stenkvist had been summoned to the podium to receive a first-place medal for a conference championship event.
