Teams to watch

Apex Guard Connor Belicic made 42.4 percent of his 3-pointers in 2008-09 and averaged 20.2 points. Weston Murphy, 6-7, was an all-conference pick and averaged 16 points and 6 rebounds. He has more than 800 career points.

Durham Hillside Three starters return from a 17-7 club, including Miykael Faulcon (12.2 ppg.) and Latrell Royster (10 ppg.). Sophomore Torian Graham (26 ppg on the junior varsity team last season) has gotten some national attention.

Durham Mount Zion The Warriors don't plan to have any fifth-year players or post-graduates this season but have a talented crew.

Durham Riverside Mike Mayer, a 6-9 senior, helped the Pirates to a 20-6 record last season. 6-5 sophomore T.J. Warren and senior guard Sean Denton also return.

Enloe The Eagles are loaded and have four starters back from a 28-3 team. Wake Forest recruit Melvin Tabb leads the way, but point guard Emanuel Chapman may be the key man.

Millbrook The Wildcats have outstanding depth and are led by 6-5 Donzell Hill.

Wilson Greenfield The Knights return four starters from a 31-6 team that features South Carolina recruit Brian Richardson and Drake recruit Jeremy Jeffers. Richardson tossed in 22.7 points per game in 2008-09 while Jeffers averaged 16.6 points.

Word of God The Rams have some of the top talent in the country, led by 6-8 C.J. Leslie, a contender for the McDonald's All-American Game. Dezmine Wells has committed to Xavier and Bishop Daniels is getting national attention.

Players to watch

Chris Carter Sanderson

6-7 forward led the Spartans in scoring (12.6 ppg.) and rebounding (3.1 rpg.).

Stephon Drane Garner

6-8 forward returns to the Trojans, after a year at Word of God, to lead a young team.

Jordan Lawson Durham Academy

The 6-4 guard averaged 19.6 points and 10.3 rebounds for a club that was 15-15.

Stephen McAllister Middle Creek

One of three returning starters from a 21-7 season. He averaged 10.5 points.

Andrew Shafer Cardinal Gibbons

6-6, 250-pound senior is a force inside.

T.J. Thorpe Durham Jordan

Junior led the 14-12 Falcons with 14 points per game in 2008-09.

Denzel Robinson Chapel Hill

6-4 guard led the Tigers in scoring (14 ppg.) and rebounding (8.4 rpg.).

Devin Masone Lighthouse Homeschool

5-9 junior averaged 27 points, 5 assists.
