File the tag-team touchdown by UNC defenders Kendric Burney and Melvin Williams under bizarre.

It looked like Burney, who returned an interception 46 yards, intentionally lateraled the ball forward to Williams, which is how UNC coach Butch Davis said he saw it, but he also lost control of the ball, which is how the officials saw it.

Then Williams, who ran the final 44 yards, had the ball stripped at the goal line, only to have the Miami player make no attempt to recover the fumble while Williams jumped on it.

It looked like there should have been an illegal forward lateral penalty, but there's no doubt that Burney lost control of the ball. For Miami, it was tough call to go the other way. For UNC, it was a fortunate result from the review system.

After missing two easy field goals, of 38 and 32 yards, in consecutive weeks in September, UNC kicker Casey Barth has hit 13 straight field goals, including four each in the past two games.

With UNC's defense playing at a high level, it was imperative for the kicking game to support it, and Barth deserves credit for turning his season around after a shaky start.

If North Carolina can finish with road wins over Boston College and N.C. State, the Tar Heels will be 5-3 in the ACC, which is important in the bowl pecking order. At 4-4, the Heels can't jump a 6-2 team, which would mean they potentially couldn't be picked in front of Boston College, Virginia Tech or Clemson.
