OBSERVATIONS
It could be an exhausting night for UNC guard Marcus Ginyard. As the team's best defensive stopper, look for him to be among the Tar Heels matched up against Ohio State's Evan Turner, a 6-foot-7 wing-turned-point guard who averaged 19 points, 17 rebounds and seven assists his first two games.
"Just because Evan plays the point doesn't mean you have to guard him with your point guard, because he doesn't play the point exclusively during the game," UNC coach Roy Williams said. "He's one of the few players I've seen during the course of a game play 1, 2, 3, 4 [positions] and that's what we've seen him do. Whoever's guarding him has to do a good job of boxing out; the kid's averaging 17 rebounds a game.
"And the crazy thing is, too, their team has 42 assists and 15 turnovers. We turn it over 15 times before the first TV timeout."
Roy Williams is 9-3 coaching at Madison Square Garden, including 1-1 there as UNC's head coach.
Depending on tonight's outcome, the Tar Heels will play either Syracuse or California on Friday; the Orange and the Golden Bears play in the early game tonight at MSG.
