Jontae Sherrod shot 5-for-7 on 3-pointers and scored a career-high 23 points Monday to lead East Carolina to an 82-73 victory over South Dakota State in the seventh-place game of the Paradise Jam in St. Thomas, Virgin Islands.

Darrius Morrow added 16 points for the Pirates (2-4), who trailed 40-28 at halftime. ECU opened the second half with a 15-0 run to take control and end a four-game losing streak.

James Madison 79, N.C. Central 66: Darren White led four players in double figures with 20 points as James Madison (2-2) beat N.C. Central in the 2K Sports Classic in Miami.

C.J. Wilkerson had 21 points for NCCU (1-5).

Shaw 80, Virginia State 62: Rodney Calwood scored 23 points and grabbed 11 rebounds for host Shaw (2-0, 2-0 CIAA).

St. Augustine 81, Virginia Union 68: Steven Brignol scored 22 points to lead St. Aug's (2-1, 2-0 CIAA).

No. 6 Purdue 73, No. 9 Tennessee 72: Tournament MVP E'Twaun Moore scored 22 points to lead Purdue (4-0) past Tennessee (4-1) in the championship game of the Paradise Jam.

Cincinnati 67, No. 24 Vanderbilt 58: Yancy Gates scored 16 points as Cincinnati (3-0) surprised Vanderbilt (2-1) in the first round of the Maui Invitational in Lahaina, Hawaii.

No. 16 Louisville 80, Appalachian State 53: Samardo Samuels had 16 points as host Louisville (4-0) topped Appalachian State (2-3).

Area Women

St. Augustine's 65, Virginia Union 54: Allison Sikes scored 15 points and grabbed 10 rebounds to lead host St. Augustine's (2-1, 1-1 CIAA) over Virginia Union (1-2, 0-2).

Virginia State 70, Shaw 58: Rhon'Neisha Taylor scored 17 points to lead Virginia State (4-0, 3-1 CIAA) to its first victory over host Shaw (1-1, 1-1) since 2001.
