Black Friday doesn't have to be just about shopping. It can be about laughter, too. Carrboro's DSI Comedy Theater is offering four shows tonight, including a family show.

Every Saturday, the theater has a kind of freestyle comedy battle that's clean, says the theater's director, Zach Ward. For today's show, a day when families might be looking for something to do, the theater is taking that template and making it a lot more interactive, Ward says.

"If you've seen 'Whose Line Is It Anyway?' it's like that," he says. "Kids come up with the most wild characters and scenarios. Some volunteers knock me off my feet, and I've been doing this for 16 years."

Each skit lasts three to four minutes, and the whole show is an hour and 15 minutes. Ward says it's not just the kids who have fun. "It's fun for parents to see their kids in rare form."

The show isn't costly, but this weekend there's an extra deal. All weekend to any of the shows, tickets are $5 with four cans of food or other nonperishables that will be given to replenish the local food bank after Thanksgiving.
