Tony Furtado began his career in the early 1990s playing banjo for Laurie Lewis and Grant Street. But his artistic muse was too restless to remain confined to bluegrass, so he branched out into other styles and into a heralded career as a solo artist. These days, he's as likely to grab hold of a slide guitar as well as banjo and launch into rock, folk, 'grass or jazz. With an eclecticism reminiscent of Bela Fleck, Furtado will perform as a special guest of Slaid Cleaves on Sunday at the Berkeley Café in downtown Raleigh.
