Goldsboro has lost 54 jobs with the closure of a call center.
CDG Management, based in New Jersey, notified the N.C. Department of Commerce last month that it was closing the center as of Nov.27.
The company said in its letter that it is closing all fundraising call centers. All the laid-off workers will be eligible for state unemployment benefits.
A company representative did not return calls seeking comment. Wayne County is one of the healthier job markets in the state: In October, the jobless rate was 8.8 percent, before adjusting for seasonal effects. That's below the state rate of 11 percent.
Last year, AT&T opened a call center in Goldsboro, about 50 miles southeast of Raleigh, that employs about 400 people. Workers there help AT&T customers resolve problems with their high-speed Internet accounts.
