Lump art gallery invited two artists from very different places to form a dream team exhibition this month. Take one's ruminations on consumer society and place it next to another's Southern, mystical grab-bag and you have "Bad Dreams Starring Good Friends."

The artists

Daniel Davidson of New York City. His work is described as a "fusion of hybrid characters, spaces and styles" that focuses on today's complex, overloaded life.

Josh Rickards of Philadelphia draws on his upbringing on an island off Florida, where his father was a preacher. Some of his work is based on druid robes, Southern rock, blue-collar patterns and Sly Stone.

Last chance

The gallery will be closed in January, so now's the time to visit. This exhibition runs through Jan. 2.

Online

Find Lump at www.lumpgallery.com and www.lumpdocket.blogspot.com. Or find it for real at 505 S. Blount St. in Raleigh. It's open noon to 5 p.m. Saturdays or by appointment during the week.

What's Lump?

It's a downtown studio that is both a commercial gallery and an artists' collective, with the feel of an alternative space. Lump specializes in exhibitions and projects of emerging, midcareer and under-recognized artists. The collective has had exhibitions in Atlanta, Philadelphia, Brooklyn, Chicago, Seattle and London.
