You don't need to go to New York or Paris to see cutting-edge fashion this spring. N.C. State University's College of Design and College of Textiles students will present their annual Art to Wear show 7:30 p.m. April 14 in Reynolds Coliseum.

The juried show combines art and technical design in fashions that are more works of art than mere apparel. Students compete with designs that have included welded metal, a patchwork quilted gown and a gown with a plow attached to the train. More info will be available soon at www .ncsuarttowear.com

TAF is giving away Adidas

Everyone loves free stuff. And through Tuesday, TAF, formerly The Athlete's Foot, is offering a chance to win a free pair of the store's exclusive new Adidas shoe, the Shooting Star.

The shoe's classic design has a red logo on the tongue and is either white with black accents or black with a red stripe around the sole, www.theathletesfoot.com. At the site, you can also sign up for e-mail alerts that include a coupon for 20 percent off a $50 purchase.

Zac Posen does discount chic

The Zac Posen for Target collection, part of the store's Go International series, is landing in the spring.

The darling of celebrities such as Gwyneth Paltrow and Kate Winslet, as well as Vogue editor Anna Wintour Posen released a line for Target in Australia last year that included gowns, casual dresses and tailored pants.

Details about the line are sketchy; attendees of a recent showing of the American collection were even asked to sign nondisclosure agreements. But word has leaked that it includes a prom dress with detachable parts, as well as lots of printed separates and several bathing suits.

The Zac line will be in stores April 25-May 30.

In the meantime, the new Rodarte for Target line is in stores and online this week. www.target.com

The line, produced by the Heys company, features durable polycarbonate composite, hard-sided luggage adorned with Britto's designs, such as a multihued geometric butterfly. Bags range in size from large rolling pieces to cosmetics totes. The Globetrotter also has umbrellas, glass wind chimes and ceramic mugs decorated with Britto's designs.
