An Army sergeant and a Marine based in North Carolina were killed in separate incidents in Afghanistan in the past week, according to the U.S. Defense Department.
Lance Cpl. Omar G. Roebuck of Moreno Valley, Calif., died Tuesday as a result of a nonhostile incident in Helmand province.
Roebuck, 23, was assigned to the 2nd Combat Engineer Battalion, 2nd Marine Division at Camp Lejeune.
The Defense Department did not provide any additional information about how Roebuck died.
Last Friday, Sgt. Albert D. Ware of Chicago died in the Arghandab River Valley after enemy forces attacked his vehicle with an improvised explosive device. Ware, 27, was assigned to the 782nd Combat Support Battalion, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 82nd Airborne Division at Fort Bragg.
Ware, a native of Liberia, is survived by a wife and three children, according to the Chicago Tribune.
