While it's said mothers-to-be always seem to have a special glow, many women know pregnancy can mean more problems than benefits with their skin. A new skincare line at Cravings, A Maternity Boutique in Raleigh might help.
Beauté de Maman was created by a board-certified obstetrician to treat skin problems caused by hormonal and physiological changes in expectant women. Using only natural ingredients to ensure safety for both mother and baby, the line includes a stretch mark cream, a face and body cream and a facial scrub. The products aim to help lessen and prevent the effects of common pregnancy side effects, such as acne and stretch marks.
Cravings, A Maternity Boutique is at 4421-105 Six Forks Road, Raleigh, in the North Hills Shopping Center. 510-8773. www.cravingsmaternity.com
Making the Playboy cut
Playboy magazine's list of the nation's top 10 barbershops includes a local establishment. Man-Mur Barbershop at 2708 Hillsborough Street in Raleigh ranks seventh on the list in the January/February issue.
It's high praise, as the shop ranks among those in larger cities such as New York, Chicago and Seattle.
Other reviewers seem to agree. On Yelp.com, the site where anyone can post a review, Man-Mur got high marks from four posters, including this from Eric M. of Raleigh: "They deal exclusively with men, and as such you won't find any of the racks full of expensive conditioner and hair products that women like to buy, nor will you find fancy hair dryers and perm set ups. What you will find is some of the best haircuts in Raleigh, by some very experienced and friendly barbers. For a few dollars extra, they'll even give you a shave with an old-fashioned straight razor and send you on your way.
"I'm sure this place hasn't changed since the 1960s, and for those of us who hate going into barbershops (even "male-oriented" barbershops like the horrid Sports Clips) it's a place of refuge. If you're a man living in Raleigh and you haven't checked this place out you definitely owe it to yourself."
We tried to ask the guys at Man-Mur to talk about the honor, but we were told the place was packed and they were too busy cutting hair. That's a good sign.
