Americans should be alarmed to by the story of the Nigerian charged in attack on a Detroit-bound flight on Christmas. In November, the man's father had reported to the U.S. Embassy in Nigeria concern over his son, presumably his son's potential threat as a terrorist.

Reports say U.S. government officials did not feel they had sufficient specific information to put the son, now a confirmed terrorist, on a no-fly list or to revoke his visa to come to the United States.

After 9/11, two wars on terrorism, numerous terrorist plots on Americans since Sept. 11, 2001, and the thousands of American soldiers killed defending our country, the government cannot even stop a terrorist when he is handed over to them by his father. What chance have we got to protect our country with such incompetent leadership?

God save the Second Amendment. We may have to take such security matters into our own hands if Washington won't do it.
