FROM STAFF REPORTS

EFLAND -- A 19-year-old woman died Saturday night when her car went off an Orange County highway and struck a stand of trees.

Ashley Ann Terry, of Efland, died at the scene of the wreck that occurred near a state weigh station when she was headed northbound at 10 p.m. Saturday night on Interstate 85, near the intersection with I-40, and ran off the road, said state Highway Patrol Trooper Mark Melvin.

She did not brake before hitting the trees, which caused her Suzuki passenger car to overturn, Melvin said.

Terry did not appear to be speeding, and alcohol was not a factor. She was wearing a seatbelt and Melvin said she had been having problems with low blood sugar, but did not yet know if that contributed to the accident.
