For many, Halston is synonymous with the disco era - Liza Minnelli and Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis in long, slinky dresses and huge sunglasses. Those fabulous disco fashions live on in the Halston Heritage line, which produces recreations of Halston's classic designs at more affordable prices.
Now Triangle shoppers can get a taste of Halston Heritage's offerings at Vermillion in North Hills, which began carrying the line this month.
"The brand has taken archived pieces from their Studio 54 days and recreated them in supple and colorful fabrics," says Ashley Harris, owner of Vermillion. "There is even a dress remade like the one that Bianca Jagger wore to Studio 54 on her wedding day."
The pieces have a decidedly '70s feel without going full-on retro. On-trend colors, such as rich jeweltones, keep the dresses and jumpsuits fresh.
"They're easy, fun party dresses and casual dresses," Harris says. "Think Carrie Bradshaw from 'Sex and the City,' but more wearable - in fact, three of the dresses are used in the new movie due out this spring."
Not only does the line reflect the "Sex and the City" aesthetic, but Halston Heritage recently brought Sarah Jessica Parker in in a yet-to-be-named role with the company. Word has it she'll be working on designs.
Vermillion is at 4321-102 Lassiter at North Hills Ave. in Raleigh. 787-9780, www.vermillionstyle.com
