Credit junior guard Will Graves for the most direct answer possible on what it will take to get North Carolina out of its current hole: "Get some wins, point-blank and simple."

Forward Ed Davis matched a season high with 16 rebounds, though he did so in an inconspicuous manner. The bigger Tar Heels had only a 40-39 edge on the glass. The sophomore also scored 10 points.

Perhaps the most stunning aspect to North Carolina's defensive woes was an inability to defend Maryland guard Eric Hayes. The senior is not known for breaking down defenders off the dribble and is known as a superb 3-point shooter. Permitting him so many open looks (Hayes was 4-for-5 from 3-point range) was folly for the Tar Heels.

After a 14-point outburst at Virginia Tech on Thursday, UNC freshman John Henson scored four points in 16 minutes against Maryland. However, he produced an impressive drive and dunk in the second half, a reminder of the raw talent that generated so much hype in the preseason.
