A major consulting firm is expanding in Fayetteville to be closer to its defense customers, and adding more than 250 jobs.

Booz Allen Hamilton, a contractor based in TysonsCorner, Va., chose Fayetteville for the expansion to be closer to the U.S. Army Forces Command and Reserve Command. The company employs about 30 people in the region and expects to expand to about 300 over time, spokesman William Butler said.

The news is the latest example of North Carolina's economy getting a boost from its deep military ties. Booz Allen began looking at possible sites 18 months ago.

Most of Booz Allen's business is contract work for the federal government.
