Afraid to fly: Selena has made this her uniform: white T and jeans. Where's the pizazz? This is the start of a great outfit, but these basics need color, embellishment, fun accessories, something. She has been afraid she'll pick the wrong color or style and get the "What are you wearing?!" reaction.
Sass and class: Selena whipped out the curling iron to add volume and shine to her hair. Skillfully applied makeup, including plum gray and pink shadows that bring out her eyes, lights up her face. Selena recently found a nice babysitter, and now here's a stylish outfit she can wear on date nights. The boatneck blouse with zipper detail (Nine West, $29.99) has a fun, subdued print that complements the white bootleg jeans (Lucky Brand, $32.99). The cropped cotton jacket (Coupe, $16.99) makes this an outfit, not just a top and jeans, and ramps up the style. The pop of color is on her feet: Ruffled suede mary janes (Steve Madden, $39.99), which Selena loves, add height and make her legs look longer. She wears her own jewelry.
Mama's got a brand-new bag: And it's bright yellow (leather handbag, Etienne Aigner, $49), a departure for color-shy Selena. The vibrant color stands up to the blacks and whites of the top and cardigan (Venue, $19.99), which is really one easy piece. The wardrobe staple everyone needs, dark denim jeans (Cynthia/Cynthia Steffe, $39.99), are a uniform color, unlike the eye-attracting fading on her "before" jeans, so they slim her legs. To add zing and extend her leg line even more, she wears reptile print wedges (Ellen Tracy, $39.99). Selena says she misses wearing heels, and these are a comfortable, adaptable choice that would pair well with skirts and dresses.
