I would suggest the state abolish all the government-run liquor stores in North Carolina and let the private sector take care of them. Liquor prices here are so much higher than any other place I have lived, and it's because of no competition.

I have read in The People's Forum that there would be liquor stores on every corner.

That is not true. They should do what they do where I used to live back East, and that is to have every town or city in North Carolina vote if it wants liquor stores, and if residents do want them, each town or city could set the rules that are best for it.

The town where I lived before I moved to Apex voted for liquor stores and allowed one for every 5,000 persons. That number can be anything the town's people allowed. The town next to me was a dry town - no alcohol. I guess you call it for the people, by the people! The decisions that are closer to the people are always the best ones.

Normally in a private liquor store, you can buy beer, wine, soda, chips, peanuts and lotto tickets and many more items. Let's get it changed!

Tony Gonnella,

Apex
