East Carolina men's basketball coach Mack McCarthy will step down after the Conference USA tournament to take a fundraising job in the school's athletic department.

The school announced McCarthy's decision Saturday night after the Pirates' 75-65 loss to Southern Mississippi in their regular-season finale.

McCarthy has a 34-56 record since the 2007-08 season, when he spent a year as acting head coach before getting the permanent job at the end of the year. ECU is 10-20 this season.

Falcons face Kutztown: Third-seeded St. Augustine's, the CIAA champion, will play No. 6 seed Kutztown in the first round of the NCAA Division II Tournament on Saturday in West Liberty, W.Va.

The Falcons (26-4) are making their fourth NCAA appearance. St. Aug's made the Division II tournament in 1983, 1984 and 1997.

"I'm excited to find out where we are going and who we will play," St. Aug's coach Lonnie Blow Jr. said. "The waiting was tough, but at least the suspense is over."
