Duke's Jon Scheyer and Kyle Singler earned first-team All-ACC basketball honors on Monday. But for the first time since the ACC was formed in 1954, North Carolina (16-15, 5-11 ACC) did not have a player chosen to the first, second or third teams.
Duke and the other two members of the Big Four were well represented, however.
Wake Forest sophomore forward Al-Farouq Aminu, Wake Forest senior guard Ish Smith, Duke junior guard Nolan Smith and N.C. State junior forward Tracy Smith were second-team selections.
UNC and Miami were the only league teams not to have a player selected for the All-ACC teams.
Among eligible Tar Heels players, sophomore forward Ed Davis, who broke his left wrist halfway through the conference season, was the closest to getting All-ACC honors. He earned 17 points in the media voting, placing him 18th among the 29 players who received votes. Senior forward Deon Thompson, the team's leading scorer, earned only six points total.
The closest UNC previously had come to not making the cut was in 2002, when it finished 8-20 and Jason Capel was the last player chosen on the third team.
This year's votes were cast by 53 members of the Atlantic Coast Sports Media Association.
