North Carolina's unemployment rate continued to rise in January, according to new figures released by the N.C. Employment Security Commission this morning.
In January, the state's unemployment rate was 11.1 percent, up from 10.9 percent in December. The December figure, along with the rest of the unemployment data from 2009 was revised as part of a mandatory annual review that is required each February by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. Previously, the ESC had reported December unemployment at 11.2 percent.
Seasonally adjusted employment increased by nearly 7,000 workers, but unemployment increased by more than 8,300 people. Since this time last year, unemployment in the state has increased by 82,208 people.
