From staff reports

For a couple of hours early this morning, kids watching two channels dedicated to children's television on Time Warner Cable may have caught glimpses of the Playboy channel.

According to Melissa Buscher at Time Warner Cable, adult program previews for the Playboy channel ran in the top right corner of channels 552 and 553 (Kids on Demand and Kids Preschool on Demand).

Buscher said the mistake, due to an equipment failure, accounted for the programming problem between 6:14am and 8:15am. She said the content shown were previews for adult shows, not the actual adult movies.

Buscher said that most market areas just went black when the equipment failed this morning, but in some areas of Cary, Garner, Morrisville, and Goldsboro, the adult previews were shown. She also said it's possible that some parts of Johnston County and Wilson experienced the problem, but they've had no complaints and no confirmation from those areas.

Time Warner Cable was made aware of the problem this morning by concerned parents who called to report the issue. The cable company has monitoring procedures in place to catch issues like this, Buscher said, but because it only impacted small areas, their standard monitoring didn't pick it up.

"We deeply regret it happened, particularly on channels dedicated to children's programming," Buscher said. "We've taken calls from concerned parents and we understand that they are concerned. We're concerned, too. We're making fixes now to make sure this doesn't happen again."
